Natural gas export project could hinge on court case

Natural gas export project could hinge on court case

The future of a massive, controversial construction project on the Chesapeake Bay for exporting natural gas could depend on one poorly written sentence. Attorneys for the Sierra Club were in court last week fighting the $3.8 billion proposal by Dominion Resources to renovate its terminal in Calvert County so the facility could send domestic gas overseas. The case — which turns on several words in a contract first signed in 1972 and rewritten over the years — is pending in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

OPEC, Foreseeing No Glut, Keeps Oil Production Level Steady

Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries agreed on Wednesday to leave their combined daily quota for petroleum production at 30 million barrels, a decision that was expected to keep prices at their current steady and relatively high levels. Even though some analysts foresee challenges shaping up for the oil producers next year, OPEC officials, meeting in Vienna, saw no reason to make changes now, given the many uncertainties about the outlook for supply and demand.

Energy bills: Ed Miliband promises simplification on top of price freeze

Ed Miliband will pledge on Friday to “reset the broken energy market”, promising that all energy bills will be simplified and use the same method to explain the cost of energy per unit and the precise standing charges. The idea is one of many laid out in a green paper on energy, including the implementation of its plan for a 20-month price freeze. Labour hopes its proposals will keep the pressure on the government over rising energy prices.
