Shale Gas Revolution Not Coming To China Anytime Soon

Shale gas has upended U.S. energy markets, cutting oil imports to their lowest level in two decades. Can China pull off the same feat? It has already passed the U.S. as the biggest buyer of oil cargoes and by far the largest burner of coal, which explains the noxious air pollution that cloaks its northern cities. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, of underground reserves offers a way to cut emissions while feeding heating systems and power plants. It now accounts for around 40% of U.S. natural gas production. The topic was certainly on the agenda of visiting U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, who met with Chinese government officials and oil-industry executives during a three-day visit that ended Wednesday. At a media briefing on Wednesday, Moniz said there was a strong interest in both countries in collaborating on unconventional oil and gas. “We have a lot of practices to share,” he said. (altro…)

(altro…)

Ukraine close to shale gas deal

Ukraine’s government is weeks away from signing a shale gas production-sharing agreement with Chevron, of the US, and bringing in Italy’s Eni and France’s EDF as partners for a Black Sea hydrocarbon exploration project. Government and business industry sources said the landmark agreements would be signed next month, as Kiev steps up efforts to find alternatives to costly imports from Russia’s Gazprom.  (altro…)

Oilfield service groups target Europe for coming shale boom

Chiswick Park in southwest London does not look like a hub of the global oil and gas industry. But that’s what this elegant business park, with its water features, landscaped gardens and coffee bars has become. It is now home to the UK’s biggest concentration of oilfield service companies outside of Aberdeen. Seadrill, Aker Solutions, Halliburton and Baker Hughes have all made their home here.  (altro…)

EUROPE’S FRACKING PROBLEMS

The question of whether North America’s shale success can or will be replicated elsewhere is often quite narrowly constructed around the amount of gas that could, potentially, be underground. In the U.K., for example, a geological survey has estimated some 1.3 quadrillion cubic feet of gas is contained within the shale formations under the Bowland area in northwest England.  (altro…)

Texas Continues To Lead The Shale Oil & Gas Revolution

Almost lost in all the news about the federal government “shutdown” (which has somehow left 83% of the government funded and functioning) over the last week are several new reports regarding the ongoing massive oil and natural gas Shale Revolution in the United States, and the role Texas is playing in making it happen.  Since I make it a policy never to miss an opportunity to expound on the benefits of this revolution, or to brag about Texas in general, I thought I’d roll these stories out here: (altro…)

Voser’s vision leaves Shell in better health

One thing is indisputable about Peter Voser’s four-year stint in the Royal Dutch Shell hot seat: investors are a lot surer of Shell than they were in 2009. As chief financial officer and then as chief executive, Mr Voser helped transform a group that was rocked to its foundations by a reserves accounting scandal and was seen as the sick man of the oil industry. Skanska sees cheap shale gas boosting U.S. construction market

The size of construction group Skanska’s (SKAb.ST) business in the Americas could overtake that of its Nordic home markets, as it sees a surge in work on industrial plants as a result of the U.S. shale gas boom, its chief executive said on Tuesday.

Johan Karlstrom, speaking at Reuters Nordic Investment Summit, said spending on infrastructure, new hospitals and facilities for high tech industries would contribute to its growth in the United States in the coming years. (altro…)
